Wolf Blass Packaging Centre
Beca worked with the client to provide a plant that caters for growth in a dynamic industry environment and meets stringent requirements for wastewater processing.
The new Wolf Blass Packaging Centre (owned by the Fosters Group) is adjacent to the Wolf Blass Winery. The design of the packaging plant had to cater for the growth in a dynamic industry environment as well as meet stringent requirements for wastewater processing.
Beca was involved in all stages of the project including capital cost estimating, detailed engineering design, tendering and procurement, architectural design, site infrastructure, waste water treatment and technical supervision of works.
Flexibility for future growth was essential. Change is constant in wine production and the design had to meet the requirements of the client’s expected business growth and implications for future production. In addition, wastewater treatment had to meet rigorous Environmental Protection Agency standards.
Variability in the total load, production volumes, environmental conditions and future needs demanded a bespoke treatment plant design. To reduce capital investment, the team developed an intermittently decanted, aerated lagoon plant with operating levels adjustable throughout all stages of the treatment plant's lifetime. This approach provides flexibility, allowing the plant to operate at levels tailored to any given influent volume, reducing its total life-cycle cost.
The client now has a plant that caters for growth in a dynamic industry environment and also meets stringent requirements for wastewater processing.
