Resorts Wold Sentosa houses one of Singapore's largest solar installations, capable of generating more than 500,000 kWh of energy per year.
The vast hotel, casino and movie theme park development Resorts World Sentosa was recently awarded a GoldPlus Green Mark rating for Districts by Singapore's Building and Construction Authority (BCA) for the integrating of sustainable building concepts into the Resort's master design. The BCA Green Mark for Districts is a pilot scheme to promote and recognise environmentally friendly and sustainable practices in the design and implementation of precinct or district developments.
As well as numerous hotels, conference facilities, a theatre, restaurants and retail outlets, the huge park includes visitor attractions such as a Universal Studios theme park and, when constructed, the world's largest oceanarium.
Beca was engaged to provide mechanical and engineering services on this huge project. Together with architects and other engineers they worked to incorporate many exciting green features into the Resort.
Resorts World Sentosa houses a solar installation, capable of generating more than 500,000 kWh of energy per year. An eco-lagoon is also part of the green development, and underground storage tanks recycle rainwater for irrigation of the extensive landscaped areas. Other green features include greening of rooftops, providing extensive canopies made of ETFE that help to reduce the ambient temperature, and an eco-cooler system which uses water and up to 20% less energy than traditional coolers, to achieve cooling for canopied areas and queue lines within the Universal Studios Singapore theme park.
The project team also took great efforts to preserve some 300 trees, and relocated an entire coral fringe even before construction commenced.
