HarbourFront Office Building, Singapore.

The HarbourFront is a prestigious six-storey large floor plate Grade 'A' office building located near to the prime Harbour Front MRT station district, and directly opposite Sentosa Island in Singapore.

Beca, as the engineering sub-consultant to the Design & Build main contractor, Sato Kogyo, provided civil & structural and mechanical & electrical engineering services on the project. Merill Lynch was the main tenant, and Mapletree was the landlord of the building.

Speed of construction was a major requirement. A structural system consisting of pre-cast slab coupled with post-tensioned beams not only allowed 15m of column free space for the offices, but it also enabled the contractor to erect six floors of office in 13 months.

Merill Lynch specified high reliability and backup facilities for their data centre. Beca produced a design for electrical power supply and air-conditioning systems which would help ensure continued operability of mission critical controls and components in the event of power failure.

Incorporating sustainable design features resulted in the project being awarded a Green Mark Gold rating. The selection of the façade vis-à-vis the architectural requirements was closely co-ordinated and implemented during the design phase to help to ensure it achieved or bettered requirements. Variable speed controls assisted in optimising power consumption of the chilled water pump sets and air handling units when demand is low during the evenings and weekends.

With the building construction complete Merril Lynch subsequently appointed Beca to be their engineering consultant for the complete fitout of the entire leased space.
