Transportation Engineer / Auckland

Jon Slason

“The great thing about working at Beca is being able to leverage the strength of a diverse set of skills, while providing individual attention to project delivery and quality.”

Jon Slason - Transportation Engineer.

Jon graduated in 2004 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the United States with dual degrees in Civil Engineering and Economics. He went on to apply his skills to complex land use, development and transportation issues.

Obtaining his professional engineering licence in 2008 allowed Jon to continue design work while acknowledging the important role strategic planning has within the project concept stages.

After moving to Beca’s Auckland office, Jon began work as Lead Traffic Signal Designer for the New Lynn Rail Trench and the New Lynn Transit Oriented Development projects. Jon assisted in developing a signal interchange scheme for these projects that will be a first for New Zealand.

Working for Beca, Jon enjoys the ability to specialise and further develop his skills, while being involved in large multi-faceted project teams, often outside his typical project scope. “This exposure provides me with plenty of career development opportunities, and the need to adopt a creative approach to the jobs I’m involved in,” he says.

Transportation funding and innovative financing mechanisms are of particular interest to Jon. He is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council LEED for Neighborhood Development Corresponding Committee, the IPENZ Transportation Group, and the Immediate Past President of the Vermont Chapter of the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
