"“I have been fortunate to be entrusted with some major challenges at Beca and have learned so much from them on the way."

Stuart Ritchie - Technical Director of Building Services Engineering.

Leading Beca's building services engineering design process, Stuart works on special projects where a high level of building services input is required. These include data centres, computer rooms, telecommunications facilities and industrial process buildings.

Stuart has over 20 years' experience in mechanical building services using heating and ventilation engineering. Over the years, Stuart focussed on designing numerous computer room facilities for major telecommunications companies. This experience led to working on other types of special purpose buildings for food manufacturing, paper processing, power generation and correctional facilities. "I have a special interest in energy efficient cooling systems, particularly for computer facilities," he says. "I always look forward to working with clients who share this interest."

Examples of significant Auckland projects Stuart has been involved in as mechanical and building services design manager include SKYCITY Grand Hotel, Datacom's Data Centre and Auckland Women's Prison.

"I approach my projects with the attitude that 'everything matters' and take the opportunity to learn when I encounter new challenges," he says. Stuart joined Beca in 1990, attracted by the prospect of working in the employee-owned company with an enormous range of discipline and market specialists - and a common motivation to help each other. "The company owners are also my work colleagues”, he says. "This gives us a unique ability to contribute to our own future."
