Alan Powell - Project Director.

Having worked in both alliance and office environments, Alan has learned a lot about team dynamics, and offers an experienced head to many projects. "The fundamental success of many major infrastructure projects lies in teamwork," he says.

Alan's journey with Beca began in 1976 as a Graduate Structural Engineer working alongside current Chairman Richard Aitken. He has spent many years in the bridge design field around the world. The Otira Viaduct project was the pinnacle of bridge design in Alan's career. "Not only is it stunning in location and structure, the Otira Viaduct is New Zealand's longest spanning structure," he explains. "It was Beca's prime infrastructure job at the time."

Grafton Gully, part of Auckland's Central Motorway Junction, was another notable project in Alan's record for it was the first major roading alliance in New Zealand. Part of his excitement on these jobs is the nature of the design and construct environment where structures come to fruition around him.

Understanding design and construct alliance-type projects is Alan's key competency. It is these technical skills that have made him relationship manager for key client Fletcher Construction.
