Traffic Engineer / Auckland

Jeremy O'Brien

"I enjoy the challenge when clients approach Beca looking for good value as well as something a little bit exceptional, over and above 'business as usual'."
Jeremy O'Brien - Traffic Engineer.

Jeremy started his career with Beca within days of completing his Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree with Honours at the University of Canterbury. Now an old hand and experienced Traffic Engineer, Jeremy seeks to provide valuable strategic advice on managing stakeholder expectations and developing innovative ways to manage transport issues.

"I like to challenge the norm in what I do and working at Beca gives me the opportunity to do just that," he says. "I like to look at the way things are done and say to myself 'can this be done better?'"

This drive, along with Jeremy's valuable time management skills, has seen him go from site to site to improve traffic management, from his role at Central Motorway Junction Stage 2 to his more recent work on the Newmarket Viaduct. On this project, his strategic thinking contributed to the project winning the 3M New Zealand Traffic Safety Innovation of the Year Award for the 'Slow Down Over Newmarket' campaign.

With several major capital work projects under his belt, Jeremy is enthusiastic about what the future of transportation holds for New Zealand. "It's exciting to be part of that continuously evolving process; where you can go from something as abstract as inner city routes, where people need to get from A to B, to designing a concrete and steel structure that will stand up for a hundred years."
