Peter is a Technical Director for Project and Cost Management on multidisciplinary projects for commercial, industrial, government and infrastructure clients, and is often involved from feasibility to project hand over. He recently returned to New Zealand from the Middle East, where he was Regional Manager for Beca International.
Peter first joined Beca in 1988 as a senior Project Manager after a successful career with New Zealand Railways, which culminated in him managing the overall programme of Civil Works associated with the North Island Electrification Project. With Beca's project management team, he worked on a variety of commercial projects before venturing offshore in 1992, initially to Indonesia, then Malaysia. Key projects during this period included the development of a new 1.8 MTPA Cement Plant in Langkawi for Kedah cement and a new greenfield secondary school in Kuala Lumpur for the Alice Smith School. He returned to New Zealand just in time to lead the design team working on Auckland's power supply in February 1999, a highly intense period of activity and a highlight of his career to date.
As Section Head for Project Management, Peter steered the team through a period of unprecedented growth, which saw the spin off of specialist project management teams for Industrial and Infrastructure Projects while still growing the core Project Management Team. This period also saw a transition into greater company and team leadership roles, which he continues today as a Technical Director and leader. His extensive experience in alternative project delivery methodologies, and roles as an experienced Engineer to the Contract make him a valuable mentor. He believes strongly in cultivating a collaborative, team approach to managing his projects, inclusive of client, designers, specialist advisors, contractors and end user groups. "Successful projects have motivated, focussed and committed teams," he says.
