Peter McCafferty

"The opportunity to work on a project from initial concept and design to final commissioning is something all engineers should have the privilege of experiencing."

Peter McCafferty - General Manager of Power.

Peter has 18 years' experience in the power engineering industry. After completing his PhD, he joined Westinghouse Systems as a SCADA/EMS engineer working on the National Control Systems of many international utility companies. He spent a great deal of time overseas commissioning these systems, working for KEMA Consulting in the Netherlands before joining Schneider Electric in the UK where he spent time in South East Asia and the Middle East.

In 2002, Peter moved to New Zealand and joined Beca. This international move has helped him to continue to grow his career and learn more about the international markets. He has worked on many multidisciplinary transmission and generation projects; mainly in project management.

Peter set-up and currently leads Beca's wind farm team. His first Project Manager role on a wind farm project was Meridian Energy's Te Apiti 90 MW Wind Farm. At the time (2004), it was the biggest wind farm in the southern hemisphere. Since then he and the Beca team has worked on numerous wind farms throughout New Zealand and Australia, helping to position Beca as one of the leading consultancies in the region for wind projects.

As a leader within Beca Power, Peter also provides direction on focus with a number of leading utility clients. This structure drives a great collaborative approach to projects and addressing challenges.

"Moving to New Zealand was the best thing for my career. The opportunity to help develop the renewable energy market for Beca with the full support of my peers has been inspirational," he says.
