Tim Dunn - Segment Manager for Chemicals

Regional centres such as Tauranga in New Zealand’s North Island can offer incredible diversity in projects, people and client relationships. This has certainly been true for Tim since joining the Tauranga team in 1996. He originally started in control systems for pulp and paper projects before progressing to senior technical and managerial positions.

Tim currently oversees the chemicals market for Beca – an area developed extensively in New Zealand over the last seven years and recently expanded into Australia. This has involved strengthening Beca’s relationship with key chemical client Orica on both sides of the Tasman.

In addition to his segment management responsibilities, Tim is technical director on project assignments in the area of electrical instrumentation and control systems. His expertise in hazardous areas has resulted in requests for his services around the world. He recently led Beca teams in Melbourne and Shanghai for the front-end design and estimation of an explosives initiating plant in Nanling, China. “Working in China was a challenge and exciting in itself,” he says. “Being at the interface and communicating well is crucial to the ongoing good relationship we enjoy with our Chinese client.”

Dealing day to day with technical, people and client issues mean no two days are the same.
