Chye is a Senior Project Manager for Beca’s Infrastructure Management Services, and he brought ten years of infrastructure experience to the team when he joined the company in 2005. Chye previously worked for consultant firms in Singapore in design coordination and design management, and he cites the strong position in the local consultant industry, the many branches overseas and the organisation’s employee focus as the main reasons he chose to work for Beca.
There have been many opportunities for Chye to work through various phases of project implementation such as fee bidding, compilation of specifications, tender and tender evaluation, award and contract administration and monitoring.
One of the more challenging projects Chye has been involved with was as Designer Site Representative for the Central Motorway Junction in Auckland. In this role Chye managed the clarifications of the design queries, sampling various work statements for review and monitoring and inspecting part of the construction and conduct audits of the contractor’s project Quality Assurance system. The construction involved various roading elements from earthwork to asphalt surfacing and road markings.
Since joining Beca, Chye has welcomed all the training and support he has received, with section managers assisting him with relocation issues and resources. The Beca Information Technology system has also provided a lot of flexibility in problem solving and location of work, which Chye has found crucial in his role.
