WEF Appointment for Beca Water Specialist

Garry Macdonald, Beca’s leading wastewater specialist in Australasia, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Water Environment Federation (WEF), one of few non-Americans to receive this honour.

Garry Macdonald is the first New Zealander on the board, joining nine existing members, three new members and six officers on the 19-person board responsible for governing WEF.

WEF is a not-for-profit association based in Washington DC with over 36,000 members worldwide. Its mission is to preserve and enhance the global water environment through technical leadership, innovation, best-practice publications, training and public education. WEF includes a large number of Member Associations, including the majority of states in the US, as well as many countries around the world. Member Associations include Water New Zealand, which is represented by Macdonald.

A WEF member since 1989, Macdonald has held multiple leadership and committee roles within WEF. He currently serves as the vice chair of the Hot Topics/Emerging Issues Symposium Committee, was chair of the WEF Globalisation Task Force, and past chair of the International Co‐ordination Committee.

The appointment of Macdonald was announced at “WEFTEC” an annual combined technical conference and trade show, where he presented a podium paper on the impact of the Canterbury earthquakes on local water infrastructure on behalf of Christchurch City Council’s Mark Christison.
