Anita is part of the Beca ITS and Modelling team involved in high profile projects that influence transport network performance. Some examples are motorway ramp signalling, congestion monitoring, travel time estimation and traffic operations modelling. Part of this work has been through the opportunity Anita has had to work for the Auckland Motorway Alliance (AMA).
Anita values the range of development opportunities she’s had at Beca. “The ‘Star Engineer’ workshop initiative was a great opportunity to meet many successful people within Beca,” she says. “They shared their vast experiences and gave me an insight into how to become a successful Beca engineer.”
With Beca’s support, Anita is also an Ambassador for Futureintech- a government-funded initiative under IPENZ promoting careers in engineering, science and technology to not only students but also parents and teachers. In 2007, Anita and a Beca colleague helped Sunnyhills School to address the safety issues around school traffic. This collaboration with students was an award-winner in the 2007 Transpower Neighbourhood Engineers Awards. “The experience was fulfilling, fun and challenging, and I was honoured to guide those bright kids to solve a real life engineering problem,” she says.
