Andy leads Beca's Geographic Information System (GIS) team of professionals, working with National, Regional and Local Authorities, State Owned Enterprises and the private sector.
With over ten years experience in the spatial data industry in New Zealand, Andy has built up strong relationships with Local Governments, environmental and power sectors.
Before Beca, Andy worked in the Geospatial GIS industry spending six years working for the Waikato Regional Council helping to set up and administer the Council GIS, undertaking data processing, project management and detail analysis for environmental reporting. Andy also spent three years running his own successful GIS business, providing consultancy services within the local authority markets before joining Beca in 2007 as a GIS Project Manager. In 2008 Andy was appointed GIS Manager for Beca.
As Beca’s GIS Manager, Andy now manages a team of twelve GIS professionals across the Auckland, Tauranga and Wellington Beca offices. The Beca GIS team use a number of GIS software packages to provide a variety of GIS services to internal and external clients including utilities data conversion, environmental planning, designing integrated field data collection tools and implementing distributed web based mapping applications.
An example of using high level GIS in a recent Beca project was the Waikato River Geomorphology Study, a comprehensive study for Mighty River Power. Involved in both the proposal and bid stage of this project, Andy was able to use his background knowledge and contacts within the Waikato Region and to help with the proposal and subsequent work.
