As Technical Director in the Wellington structural team, Hamish leads teams on large projects in New Zealand and Asia, which typically include large commercial and heavy industrial projects. His role also has a marketing focus, with a strong emphasis on building strong relationships with his clients.
"Beca works on such a wide range of projects," he says, "and the number of unique opportunities I've been presented with at Beca have contributed greatly to the success stories I've been able to tell."
Hamish cites his most recent experience as working on the Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracts for Kawerau and Nga Awa Pura Geothermal Power Stations, where he says the close working relationships between the client, specialist contractors and Beca helped to successfully deliver these complex infrastructure projects. "Everyone worked together to obtain the best outcome for the client," he says. "This resulted in projects that were delivered early, under budget and performing to a higher standard than expectations."
Early in his career, Hamish worked for various consulting firms including Brickell Moss and Partners and Connell Wagner. In 1996, he became National Business Development Manager for Ebert Construction Limited, a large Design and Build Specialist Industrial Construction Company. This experience changed Hamish's perspective on design and how he can add value, particularly as many of his clients are design and build construction specialists. "Collaborating lies in the heart of the high performing design team," he says. "Focussing on simplifying my designs and management can help to improve the project's delivery."
