Manager of South Island Planning / Christchurch

Ainsley McLeod

“The people I work with – both Beca people and clients – are all passionate about what they do.”

Ainsley McLeod - Manager of South Island Planning.

Ainsley is a Technical Director of the Beca Planning team and leader of the planning business in the South Island of New Zealand. 2010 is her eleventh year with Beca, having spent nine years in the Wellington office and she is in her second year in Christchurch.

Ainsley has particular expertise in leading planning for major, and sometimes nationally significant, infrastructure projects including roads, telecommunications, energy transmission and distribution and electricity generation. She has a thorough knowledge of the Resource Management Act, both in terms of planning approvals and plan development, and says “I relish the opportunity to address complex planning issues through applying my knowledge of the RMA to assist clients to achieve their aspirations.”

The variety and types of project opportunities available are definitely a highlight for Ainsley in the consulting business. “They give you the opportunity to not only utilise your planning skills but also learn about broader aspects of major projects and industries,” she says. “As a planner at Beca, you are exposed to more than simply the statutory approvals process, often being relied upon to lead and manage multi-disciplinary teams.”

She also enjoys having a leadership role within Beca Planning, helping graduates and other planners to shape their own careers. “Over the years, I’ve seen young planners develop by taking on bigger and better project roles.”
