"I enjoy the larger, long-term projects where you can develop friendships that extend beyond projects."
Joining Beca has been a valuable move in Richard's career, helped by both the scale and reputation enjoyed by the multi disciplinary consultancy, the experience gained on a variety of projects and the ability to call upon specific expertise across a wide range of disciplines both within the local Hamilton office and across the wider 2,500 strong Beca group.
Beca has also provided Richard with regional leadership opportunities. He leads Beca Planning in Hamilton and takes on specific project leadership roles as a senior planner. He is experienced in statutory and policy planning and has provided support to a number of local authorities on projects ranging from consent processing to plan changes. More recently, Richard has been involved in some exciting projects, such as the Waipa District Growth Strategy and District Plan Review (Waipa 2050), the Waikato Rail Strategy and preparation of a structure plan for the Kopu-Thames area.
Developing great client relationships at Beca is a highlight for Richard. This is particularly true for the Waipa 2050 project, where Richard shares the Waipa District Council’s passion and vision for the area - he was even selected for the Mayor’s cricket team in 2009.
Richard values the diversity he has experienced with Beca, enabling and encouraging employees to understand areas of the business outside their own disciplines. "If you show an interest in a certain field, Beca encourages you to follow it." He is also inspired by the common goals set by Beca's vision and values – partnership, tenacity, enjoyment and care.
