The international exchanging of ideas and current industry practice is one of the key strengths of Beca. It is very pleasing to see that, besides being located in the bottom corner of the world, many of our people, procedures and technical practices are up there with some of the leading players.
Jon has 20 years experience in the building consulting industry in New Zealand and also the UK and Central Africa. For the last 14 years, Jon has worked for Beca on projects in the health, airport and commercial sectors throughout NZ, Asia and the Middle East.
In addition to electrical building services, Jon has supplied technical leadership in the vertical transportation area. This includes lift traffic modelling and design advice for high rise projects in Asia and the Middle East. The lift design is a major input into the architectural layout and a significant financial and space investment for the project. Jon considers getting architectural and client agreement to the most appropriate solution is exciting and enjoyable challenge. In this role Jon has the opportunity to meet with suppliers in Europe and Asia to keep up with the latest developments in this field.
As General Manager of the Building Services group in NZ Jon is tasked with interfacing with other Beca offices globally. This has allowed him to travel and meet staff in other hubs to share ideas. As part of Beca’s Alumni programme, Jon also regularly meets with past Beca engineers currently working for practices in North America and Europe to exchange ideas and current practices.
