General Manager of Transportation / Auckland

Matthew Ensor

"The best opportunities definitely come from being surrounded by creative people, all enthusiastically striving together to transform our world."

Matthew Ensor - General Manager of Transportation.

Matt is the General Manager of Transportation in New Zealand. He is responsible for traffic engineering and transport planning teams as well as the emerging areas of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and network performance.

Matt originally joined Beca in 1989 as a graduate, working in the Auckland and then the Wellington offices before leaving to spend four years with the New Zealand Ministry of Defence. At the Ministry Matt worked in the area of major capital investment with his final role being as the Ministry's Manager: Defence Planning System, which incorporated all the strategic planning and reporting processes for major equipment purchase and replacement decisions.

Matt has engineering, sociology and management qualifications, and he believes that it's important to have an understanding of all these aspects when working in the Transportation area. "Transport networks are an enormous economic investment that need be analysed and planned carefully," he says. "This requires an understanding about how we can deliver what the society needs to sustain itself in a happy and healthy way.”

Matt has led Beca's Transportation team since 2004. During this time his team won the inaugural EEO Trust Diversity Award, which recognised the team's ability to use their cultural diversity to competitive advantage. For Matt, the company's clear long-term vision, combined with the value we place on technical excellence and integrity makes Beca a special place to work.
